Joining a RingSurf RingThere are a couple of ways of finding out about rings. One is to go to www.ringsurf.com and drill down through the categories of existing rings to find one that suits your situation or needs.
The other is to look at blogs that interest you and find out what rings they belong to. Rings are typically shown as a text name or image button and the navigation code for list, join, next and previous. Clicking on the button itself will take you to the home page of the ring which should explain what the ring is all about and who owns it.
The list link will give you the list of current members and other info such as how many are waiting in the queue to join.
The join button will take you to the ringsurf page where you can join that ring.
Joining is a two part process.
1) Once you have decided you meet the criteria for joining, fill out the form and submit it. In the confirmation you will get the navigation HTML that you must use on your blog. NOTE You must use the code that was assigned to you - it has your unique ID that gives you your position in the ring and if you try to use a copy from somewhere else it will mess up the navigation and the ring management. Also NOTE that you cannot be added to the ring without this code in your blog.
2) Wait for the ringmaster to check that your code is in correctly and approves your membership. You should get an email when this has been done, but check your junk mail as it sometimes goes there. Until you are approved if you try to click on the links you will get a "sorry you are not a member of this ring" message.
How long this part takes depends on the vigilance of the ringmaster.
Also some rings have maximum memberships and you may have to wait for others to drop out before you can join.

Adding ring code to a Blogger blogOn your dashboard, go to the template tab and inside that click on the "page elements" menu item.
Click on Add a Page Element and in the dialog that comes up click on the Add To Blog button in the HTML/Javascript option.
Copy your ring code into the content pane (No need to put anything in the title area - though you could put "Rings" there and put all your ring code in one page element.) and click on "Save Changes". Check that it comes up on your blog correctly.
If you have been given generic code there will be several places where it says '***SITE ID***'. These must be replaced by your own personal number. If you don't know what it is then you can request it from the ringmaster
