The Everything Blogging Book by Aliza Risdahl. This is her blog http://babyfruit.typepad.com/mediagirl/
One of those "... for Dummies" type books which covers the subject matter in a comprehensive and straight forward way.
There are chapters on the history of blogging and why it has become so popular, how to choose a blogging host (that covers more options than I have seen in other books), how to set one up on several different hosts, what makes a successful blog using examples (including dooce who happens to live here in Salt Lake City), what to blog about and what styles are best used or avoided, how to get people to visit your blog, picture hosts, syndication, trackbacks (still find that concept difficult to grasp - I think Ineed to draw myself a picture to work out who is linking to whom!) blog rings etc, etc.
At the back there is a long list of other books and internet resources that is very useful.
