I just moved this across from the old forum as I didn't want to forget it!
I used to keep diaries when I was a teenager and my parents never showed the slightest interest in them, even though I used to buy big foolscap diaries with cardboard covers and write PRIVATE - DO NOT READ all over them and leave them where they could easily be seen. My mother used to lift them up to dust under them and then put them back *sigh* don't your parents just let you down whatever they do?
I do vaguely remember the tone of them, rather than the contents, but I had a clear-out in my twenties and got rid of them all. I used to write a great deal in my teens, both poetry and prose, it was all very anguished I think. Probably there were some good bits in there somewhere!
I had a huge bag of all my writings stored on the top of a wardrobe at my mother's house. One day, a few years after I had left home, she was having a clear-out (she was very keen on clearing stuff out; she hated clutter) and she threw them all away. I was a bit upset about that when I found out, but now, many years later, I think that what was in the bags isn't what mattered, it is what is inside my head that counts, and I still have that, after all.
